Cityview at a Glance

THE C.I.T.Y.V.I.E.W. PROFILE

CENTERED AROUND THE FAMILY

We are committed to helping your family succeed. We are committed to
providing you with the tools and the support that you will need to build a strong
marriage and to raise your children to know and love the Lord. Our church will be successful to the degree that we can help you and your family be successful. Families are very important to us at Cityview. Single adults are also a significant part of our community and it is our goal to minister to you and meet your needs.

Cityview does not have a regular worship service on Sunday evenings. This is for
a very important reason: we want you to spend Sunday evenings together as a
family. Doing family stuff: sharing a meal, picnicking in the park, rollerblading,
walking together ... something, as long as it helps build family ties ...

INDIVIDUAL ACCEPTANCE

No matter what you have done ... we love you. The people of Cityview
community Church are people just like you. We are not the judge and jury. We
are fellow pilgrims on the journey called life. We are not here to point fingers,
whisper behind backs or pronounce judgments on others.

We believe that if God can forgive us of our sins we can certainly forgive one
another. For some reason, the Christian church has gotten a reputation for
shooting its wounded. Maybe you have been hurt from a previous church
experience. For that we are sorry. We want to remind you that churches are
like people: there are some good ones and there are some bad ones. Finding a
good church is worth your time and efforts.

TARGET DEFINED

God loves variety. We can see this all around us in nature. There are over 10,000 varieties of flowers. No one church is the best. The best churches are the ones that help people know Christ and live for Him. Some people need a very liturgical service, other people are more geared for swinging from the chandeliers. Others need something more in the middle.

At Cityview our target are the baby-boomers who like contemporary music. A band is what we like ... with guitars, drums, bass and spirit. Our target person has some church background but seldom attends. They are or have been married, have 2-3 kids, great education, good job, in debt, health and fitness are high priorities, would rather be in a large group than a small one, is skeptical of "organized" religion and prefers casual and informal over the formal.

YAHWEH FOCUSED

We believe in the God of the Bible. That He is the same yesterday, today and
forever. We want to stay focused on Him. Not programs, personalities, buildings, events, finances ... but on God. During our worship at Cityview, God is the audience, and the rest of us are on the stage. We want to keep our eye on the ball.
Did you know that God has several names? They are all in the Bible and each name describes a facet of His character. You can take each of these 8 names and focus individually on what God is really like! Pray the names of God as affirmations of praise:

Jehovah - Shammah - "God is present with me" Ezekiel 48:35
You are here! I am never alone!
Jehovah- Rohi - "God is my Shepherd" Psalm 23:1
You lead me and feed me and protect me!
Jehovah Jireh - "God is my Provider" Genesis 22:14
You can see what I need before I even ask!
Jehovah-Rophe - "God is my Healer" Exodus 15:26
You can heal my body, emotions, and relationships!
Jehovah-Tsidkenu - "God is my Righteousness" Jeremiah 23:6
You accept me and forgive me because of Jesus!
Jehovah-M'Kaddish- "God is my Sanctification" Leviticus 20:8
You make me holy and like Jesus!
Jehovah-Shalom - "God is my peace" Judges 6:24
You give me peace in spite of circumstances!
Jehovah Nissi - "God is my Banner" Exodus 17:15
You are my victory in conflict and confrontation!

Think of the implications of these names and you'll be filled with praise!!!

VALUABLE ENCOURAGING PREACHING

The gospel is the GOOD NEWS. Each week we want to present you with Good
News from God's Word! One of the best things about Cityview is our Pastor, Bryan Day. He preaches in a way that will help you understand the Bible. He is fun to listen to. He will make you laugh and cry during the same message. He will also present the practical truths from the Bible in such a way that you will be able to put them into practice during the course of your week. Bryan believes that it is a sin to bore people with the Bible.

INVITING THE UNCHURCHED

Cityview is committed to inviting people to visit our church. We do this
primarily through direct-mail pieces. The worst fate for any church is to be ignored. Our goal is not to "steal people" from other churches but to reach people who do not normally attend church.

Over the years our experience has been that 50% of the people who will visit our church will do so because a friend or family member invited them to attend. 40% will come because they receive an invitation in the mail. The other 10% come for various reasons.

One of the key differences between growing churches and non-growing churches is that growing churches are committed to inviting people to attend.

EVERYONE INVOLVED IN MINISTRY

At Cityview we believe that everyone should be involved in ministry. That is in
serving the Lord in a manner that is suited with an individual's talents, gifts, interests, etc. We believe that everyone is a "10" in some area. It is our goal to help you to discover your ministry and then to help equip and support you as you serve the Lord. God has been molding and shaping you for ministry since you were born.

You ministry will be most effective and fulfilling when you are using your gifts and
abilities in the area of your heart's desire in a way that best expresses your personality and experience. Everyone who knows the Lord should be involved in serving Him in some capacity. At Cityview, we will provide you with a list of 100+ WAYS YOU CAN BE INVOLVED. The list includes everything from teaching Sunday School to fixing cars for widows to leading small group fellowships to setting up chairs for the worship service ... You can and should be doing something for the people and kingdom of God. Every member is a minister at Cityview Community Church.

WORSHIP LIBERATES

Visiting a new church for the first time can be a very uncomfortable
experience. Our worship services are designed to put you at ease. Coffee and donuts are served before and after each service. You will discover that the dress is casual. You may wear whatever you are comfortable wearing. Our people are friendly but not pushy. Don't be surprised if you are greeted several times. The music is upbeat and contemporary. The service is fast paced, relaxed, and enjoyable. No one is going to scream at you or beg for you money. In fact, we don't even pass an offering plate during the service. There are offering baskets placed at the doors so people can give their offerings as they come in and go out.

The bulletin is written in such a way that anyone can understand what is happening or what is coming up in the service. During the sermon, an outline is provided that includes the main points of the messages, the key Bible verses in an interesting fill-in-the-blank format. There's no pressure, pleas or activities which might make you feel uncomfortable. The service is refreshing, uplifting and helpful. You will leave the service feeling better than when you arrived!
